Joey Logano has won the Nationwide Series race at Chicagoland Speedway for his third win of the season.

Logano passed Kyle Busch with 25 laps left Friday night, then held him off over the final 10 laps. The 19-year-old Logano, the youngest winner in Sprint Cup history, did not make a late pit stop to get fresh tires. The gamble paid off.

Logano also won Nationwide races at Kentucky Speedway and Nashville, Tenn.

Busch was second.

The swift exit of General Motors from bankruptcy protection was good news for NASCAR’s industry leaders, who count on the automaker’s financial support to fund their pricey race teams.

GM emerged Friday after only 40 days under court protection. The sport’s heavyweights like Mark Martin, Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr. all drive Chevrolets. It’s also NASCAR’s most successful manufacturer, with 32 championships in the Sprint Cup series.

Dr. David Black, the program administrator, said Wednesday the test processed by Aegis Sciences Corp. would be completed by Friday at the latest. His Nashville, Tenn.-based lab typically needs four days to analyze a sample.

Kyle Busch is having the type of season most drivers would envy.

He’s strongly positioned for a spot in the Chase, is tied for the Cup lead in victories and remains a serious threat to win in any series each time the green flag drops.

Busch’s recent success makes the Joe Gibbs Racing driver a prime contender to capture his first Sprint Cup championship.

Ask the feisty Busch about his season, though, and it seems as if he’s more like a driver always running in the back of the pack.

Although NASCAR contends it has the best anti-doping procedures in sports, some experts see flaws in the policy and question whether drivers are getting a fair shake in the lab or a safe ride on the track.

The debate between outfits that run Olympic-style testing programs and leagues that enforce their own - NASCAR, baseball and the NFL among them - has been going on for a while, but it’s taking on new relevance in the wake of Jeremy Mayfield’s case against NASCAR.
